Introduction

Middlesbrough Welfare Rights Unit is part of the Department of Social Care and consists of a team of Welfare Rights Officers who provide free and confidential advice and representation on Welfare Benefits and Tax Credit issues.

Statement of Purpose

The benefits system is large, complex and administered by a number of different agencies. As a result, millions of pounds worth of Welfare Benefits and Tax Credits are unclaimed every year. Government figures show that for some benefits only half the people who are entitled actually make a claim.

Therefore:

"Middlesbrough Welfare Rights Unit is committed to ensuring that the people of Middlesbrough receive all the benefits to which they are entitled under the law".
