Hemlington Lake and Recreation Centre
Introduction
Hemlington Lake & Recreation Centre is situated about 5 miles from the centre of Middlesbrough. The site covers an area of approximately 39 acres of open parkland and is split into two sites; Hemlington Recreation Centre and Hemlington Hall Farm outbuildings.
The lake is host to a wide variety of wildlife, including kingfishers, mute swans, tufted and ruddy ducks and many seasonal visitors as well as a thriving population of watervoles, Britain's fastest declining mammal.
The Centre boasts a wide range of activities for adults and children of all ages, (children's gymnastic classes from 6 week to 10 years), Ballet Classes (3-5.5 to 7 years), Buster Junior Club and Karate and for the adults we offer Yoga, 50+ Aerobics, Indoor Bowls, Walking Group, GP Referral Group and Karate and ‘The Gym’ fitness suite. Facilities offered include activity hall which can also be hired privately for groups or private parties, incorporating Bounce n Slide Castle, Soft Play and for the under 5’s ‘The Fun Box’ a purpose built ball room with small slide, funny mirrors etc.
Outside we offer a 1.25mile running/jogging circuit, Dawn to Dusk angling, children's play area, canoeing facilities (available on request), 2 senior and 1 junior football pitch, floodlit Kick-A-Bout Area and skateboard park, a Natural Play Area, Woodland Walk, Community Orchard and lots of open space to enjoy.
The Farm buildings can be hired for a range of activities as well as being home to Cleveland Wood Turners. It is also the venue for the majority of events held at Hemlington. The outbuilding house changing rooms, canoe/kayak storage and small classroom.
Toilets, first aid, information, baby changing and refreshments are available from Recreation Centre building.
