The Comedy of Errors
TUESDAY 17 AUGUST 6.30PM Shakespeare’s Globe on Tour presents THE COMEDY OF ERRORS by William Shakespeare, In mima gardens, Centre Square
The world-famous Shakespeare’s Globe presents its acclaimed stripped-down version of Shakespeare’s most farcical comedy, played with all the breakneck excitement and youthful exuberance of the play itself.
Take one pair of estranged twins (both called Antipholus) and one pair of twin servants (both called Dromio), keep them in ignorance of each other and throw them into a city with a reputation for sorcery and you have the chief ingredients for theatrical chaos. Fastpaced, hilarious and seemingly irreverent, the young William Shakespeare explores themes in this comedy that recur again and again in his later work: mistaken identity, coincidence and the importance of family.
Performed on an Elizabethan-spired stage, a small troupe of travelling players breathe new life into this delightfully anarchic play. Fast, furious and extremely funny, eight talented actors reinvent renaissance touring theatre for the 21st century with Shakespeare’s greatest farce.
