Designation for selective licensing

Notice is hereby given that on 6 March 2007, Middlesbrough Council was confirmed by the Department of Communities and Local Government as a Designated Authority for Selective Licensing in exercise of its powers under Section 82 of the Housing Act 2004.

Selective Licensing came into effect on 5 June 2007 and will remain in force for a period of five years. The proposed Designated Area includes a number of private rented properties within the Gresham and Middlehaven Wards. Any landlord, person managing or tenant of any property can seek advice from Middlesbrough Council Housing Protection Services on whether their property is affected by the designation.

A copy of the Designation or any such information relating to the designation will be available for inspection free of charge during normal office hours at the office of Housing Protection Services Manager, 3rd Floor, Vancouver House, Gurney Street, Middlesbrough for as long as the designation is in force, make contact on 01642 728726 or e-mail privatesectorhousing@middlesbrough.gov.uk.

A person commits an offence if he is a person having control of or managing a house, which is required to be licensed under Section 85 (1) of the Housing Act 2004 but is not so licensed and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding £20,000.
