2011 National Census

2011 National Census logo

The next national Census will take place in March 2011.

The purpose of the Census is to count all the people in the country and find out how many live in different parts of the country. These population numbers are then widely used to plan, deliver and fund public services, including healthcare, education, housing, transport and community support.

The survey is run by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and will involve every household in England and Wales filling in a questionnaire. When the time comes all households will be sent a copy of the questionnaire and instructions on how to complete and return it.

Planning and preparations are already underway and Middlesbrough Council will be assisting the ONS to ensure that we get a fair and accurate person count for our area.
