Ray Mallon. Biography
Ray Mallon became Elected Mayor of Middlesbrough in May 2002. He stood as an Independent candidate and polled 64 per cent of the vote.Ray was born in Stockton - his father ran well-known local undertakers Crake and Mallon.
He joined the police force as a cadet and came to prominence when as a Detective Superintendent, he introduced "zero tolerance" policing in Hartlepool and Middlesbrough, cutting crime in Middlesbrough by 20 per cent in 18 months.
Ray left Cleveland Police after the now discredited Operation Lancet investigation.

Ray is a board member of regional regeneration agency One NorthEast. A teetotal, non-smoker, he was a member of the British Water Polo team in his youth. He has two grown-up daughters.
