Food Hygiene Awards

Consumers can check on the hygiene standards in food businesses by looking for the Tees Valley Food Hygiene Award. Following a hygiene inspection by an Environmental Health Officer, a food business is awarded a star rating ranging from Five Stars for excellent standards down to No Stars where major improvements are needed.

Businesses are asked to display their star rating certificate and the star rating is published on the internet at www.scoresonthedoors.org.uk

The scheme provides a source of public information, helping consumers to consider hygiene standards before they eat or buy food. The scheme also acts as an incentive for food businesses to improve and maintain good hygiene standards.

The star rating does not reflect the quality of food or the standards of service provided to customers.
