Middlesbrough Council is one of only a few councils in the country to provide a street washing service. This service cleans pavements in all council owned shopping areas, parks and public areas.
The process is performed using a mechanical sweeper. The machine using a low-pressure water jet and brushes scrubs the pavement and as the machine travels along the pavement the water is then sucked up along with the residue leaving only a damp surface. The machine has a facility to recycle the water collected that reduces the water usage.
