Green waste

Green Waste

Middlesbrough Council currently offers free fortnightly kerbside garden green waste collections to residents.  All green waste is taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) at Haverton Hill, Stockton, where it is composted.

Finished compost is available, at the HWRC, to residents during the first week of every month.

During the first week of every month residents can take appropriate sacks (old compost bags or small rubble sacks are ideal) and fill them with loose compost.  This service is for the benefit of all residents and we would ask people to use their discretion and be reasonable when taking compost. Please note that this service is not open to commercial interests and large trailers and vans will not be able to fill up with loose compost.

Items that we are able/unable to collect on this service are:

Yes No

Grass cuttings

Soil

Hedge trimmings

Rubble

Bedding plants

Food waste

Dead plants

Prunings

Flowers

Animal waste

Green waste collections.

Middlesbrough Council would like to thank all those residents that supported and participated in the green waste recycling collection scheme in 2009. This is an important part of our work to improve sustainable waste and recycling provision in Middlesbrough and your help and participation is much appreciated.

Fortnightly collections of garden green waste resume in 2010 as of Tuesday 2nd February.  Residents unsure of their collection day can download their recycling and refuse calendar via the link on the right of this page or order a replacement calendar by calling the contact centre freephone helpline number on 0800 013 6001.

If you have any questions, or need further information, please call the Environment contact centre on Tel: 0800 013 6001.
