'Alive after Five'
A number of town centre stores and shopping centres remain open until 8pm every Thursday. The extended trading hours are designed to develop Thursdays in Middlesbrough as a late night shopping destination. As part of this ‘Alive After Five’ initiative the Council, along with Hillstreet and The Mall have all agreed to offer car parking free from 4.00pm. All Council car parks will be free of charge after 4.00pm on Thursdays until further notice.
Please note that the Captain Cook Square and Zetland Car Parks are now closing at 7.30pm on Thursdays. The surface car parks remain available for use until 9.00pm.
Zetland Car Park: £1.00/day on Saturdays
A further change was introduced on 1st October, this is the introduction of a £1.00 for all day charge in Zetland Car Park on Saturdays. This is designed to encourage greater use of Zetland Car Park on Saturdays by shoppers thus reducing pressure and congestion in and around the most popular town centre shopper car parks at peak times.
Captain Cook Square Car Park : efficient use of parking spaces
Additional parking spaces have been made available for Season Ticket Holders and Essential User Permit Holders in Captain Cook Square Car Park.
Permit holders are now allowed to park on the Short Stay Level 3 of the Multi Storey Car Park as well as on Levels 4, 4A, 5 and 6.
The Short Stay Pay and Display tariff remains in operation on Level 3. These new facilities are only available for permit holders. Long Stay Pay and Display tickets are not valid on Level 3.
Levels 0, 1 and 2 remain strictly Short Stay Pay and Display only (Season Ticket Holders and Essential Users are not permitted to park on these levels).
Long Stay Pay and Display parking remains on levels 4, 4A, 5 and 6.
These arrangements are designed to make more efficient use of the spaces in Captain Cook Square whilst retaining the priority for shopper parking on the lower floors.
