The trading standards service is responsible for the regulation of all businesses in Middlesbrough in areas such as unsafe goods, false descriptions, counterfeiting, consumer credit, pricing, under-age sales and weights and measures.

The service has responsibility for enforcing many Acts of Parliament and associated regulations covering all levels and types of trade.
