Inspection of Food Businesses

The Food and Safety Team aims to protect and improve public health and safety by promoting good hygiene standards and safe working practices.

Environmental Health Officers and Food Safety Officers carry out regular risk-based visits of food businesses in Middlesbrough. During a visit, officers will assess how hygienically food is handled, the condition of the structure, including cleanliness, layout, equipment and facilities and check how well the business manages and controls risks to food safety.

Advice and guidance on good hygiene practices is given and, where necessary, enforcement action may be taken to remove or reduce risks to consumers.
