Sikhs from across the region will come to Middlesbrough this weekend for a colourful religious celebration.
The fourth annual Sikh Nagar Kirtan takes place on Sunday, July 1 in central Middlesbrough.
The Nagar Kirtan procession will travel from the Lorne Street Sikh Temple to Centre Square. There will be music and the singing of the Sikh holy scriptures. It is primarily a religious event but people of all religions and races are invited to attend.
The origins of the Nagar Kirtan go back many hundreds of years when processions would take place through the towns and villages of India. Minstrels would play music and hymns would be sang.
The event in Centre Square will start at 1pm and finish at 4pm. There will be speeches, music, martial arts displays and food provided free by the Sikh community for all those who attend. There will also be a face painter and information stalls.
The army recruiting team will be in attendance and bringing with them an inflatable bungee run and inflatable wrecking ball.
The Sikh Procession will travel from the Sikh Temple in Lorne Street, through Derwent Street, Union Street, Borough Road and Albert Road to Centre Square.
A rolling road closure will be in place, with the affected roads re-opened to traffic as soon as the procession passes. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
