Fiction, poetry, writing workshops, biography, music & storytelling

Middlesbrough Literary Festival

The fifth Middlesbrough Literary Festival begins on Saturday June 15th with a variety of events for the entire family taking place at Middlesbrough Central Library throughout the day and a spectacular spoken word, music and comedy cabaret on the evening.

The ethos of the Middlesbrough Literary Festival is to celebrate the word in all its forms through reading, writing, music and spoken word and we have something to cover all these forms in this year's programme. We are putting particular emphasis on creative writing and performance in 2013, offering variety of learning opportunities including writing workshops, local history sessions and opportunities to meet and learn from literary agents, publishers and learning providers.

Festival highlights include bestselling author Kathy Lette, radio and television legend Andy Kershaw and Middlesbrough born playwright and Teesside University's Master of Literature, Wally K Daly. We are joined by children's authors Steve Weatherill, author of the Baby Goz series of books, Dean Wilkinson who will deliver a comedy comic workshop and interactive sessions with illustrator Keith Brumpton. Patience Ezinwoke will read from her children's book Flowers in the Ghetto on 15th June and we will be joined by other local children's authors during the festival.
