Raising Hope Reducing Fear

Street Warden

Middlesbrough Street Wardens provide a service throughout the whole of Middlesbrough.   Our aim is to reduce crime and the fear of crime as well as improving the quality of life for all our residents.  We do this by:

  • Carrying out high visible patrols
  • Dealing with episodes of anti-social behaviour
  • Reporting environmental disturbance such as dog fouling, fly-tipping and graffiti
  • Reporting to relevant agencies
  • Arranging diversionary activities and educating perpetrators of ASB
  • Working in partnership with Police, Council and other agencies
  • Educating individulas and groups regarding the effect of their behaviour to others.

Street Wardens have a number of powers which are:

  • We can request names and addresses of anyone acting in an anti social behaviour manner
  • We can request people to stop drinking in a public alcohol free zone and to surrender and dispose of open alcoholic drink containers
  • We can confiscate alcohol from young people, request names and addresses and dispose of any confiscated items.
  • We can enforce environmental issues i.e dog fouling, graffiti, littering and fly tipping.

Wardens will only use their powers when appropriate and as a last resort where an individual refuses to modify their behaviour. Street warden operational hours are 10.35am-11pm 365 days a year.

We have a dedicated Town Centre Team to ensure residents as well as visitors to the town have access to our services.
