Raising Hope Reducing Fear

street wardens

Middlesbrough Street Wardens provide a service throughout Middlesbrough. We currently have 64 wardens, which include dedicated on foot home base Wardens as well as a Rapid Response Team (in vehicles) who support and give extra cover as and when required.

We have a dedicated Town Centre Team to ensure residents as well as visitors to the town, have access to our services. Operational hours are 2.00pm - 10.00pm  for Home Base wardens and 11.00am - 7.00pm for Town Centre wardens.

Our aim is to reduce crime and the fear of crime as well as improving the quality of life for all our residents.  We do this by:

  • Carrying out high visible patrols
  • Dealing with episodes of anti-social behaviour
  • Reporting environmental disturbance
  • Reporting to relevant agencies
  • Arranging diversionary activities and educating perpetrators of ASB

The street warden service does not and cannot:

  • Deal directly with criminal activity
  • Confiscate alcohol
  • Confiscate motorbikes and other nuisance items
  • Demand names
  • Issue fixed penalty fines
  • Detain people against their will
