Civil Parking Enforcement

Parking in Middlesbrough is enforced in accordance with the Traffic Management Act 2004 Part 6 - Civil parking enforcement. For more information, please follow this link to Parking enforcement and penalty charges.

Middlesbrough Council operates pay and display car parks in the town centre. Our aim is to provide a quality parking service in Middlesbrough that supports the Council’s objectives for the town.

We also enforce yellow line waiting restrictions, on street parking places and Residents Parking Schemes. The Council’s team of Civil Enforcement Officers Parking issue Penalty Charge Notices to motorists who break the rules. The Council is enforcing these restrictions in order to:

  • Improve road safety
  • Reduce congestion
  • Support the local economy
  • Improve access to public transport
  • Reduce commuter parking in residential areas

The money received from Penalty Charge Notices is used to pay for the provision of the parking service and any surplus is reinvested into transport related schemes in Middlesbrough.
