Digital offer in our libraries

You need to be registered for our digital offer to use our public computers, free wifi, wifi printing, or the Hublets.

Registering is easy - you just need to show proof of your address at any of our Community Hubs and Libraries.

It's free to register and use any of our digital services. The only charge is for wifi printing, which costs 15p per page for black and white A4, and 35p per page for colour A4.

Our services

Public computers

add

There are public computers with large screens at all Community Hubs and Libraries. You just need to be registered for our digital offer to use them.

All computers offer:

  • access to the internet and email
  • Microsoft Office programmes (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)
  • printing
  • access to a range of online resources including Ancestry Library and Find My Past

You can also use the computers to access files which have been saved:

  • on a USB stick
  • on your smartphone, tablet, or iPad (but you'll need to bring your own connecting lead, like a USB cable)
  • in cloud storage, like Google Drive or Dropbox

How to book a computer

Once you're registered to use the digital offer, you can either book a computer in advance, or just turn up on the day. To book a computer, speak to a member of staff.

When you arrive, you can log on to the computer using your library borrower number (found on the back of your library card) and your PIN number. You'll need to accept the terms and conditions before you can use the computer.

In some of our venues, the computers can get very busy. If you need access to a computer and will not be able to wait until another day, we recommend that you book in advance.

Bookings are for a maximum of 2 hours per day, so everyone has a fair chance to use the computers.

Free wifi

add

Free wifi is available in all Community Hubs and Libraries.

You can bring your own device (phone, tablet, or laptop) to access the free wifi.

You can check your email, apply for jobs, and more. You can even print documents over the wifi (available in all libraries except Neptune and Rainbow).

You just need to be registered for our digital offer to use the free wifi.

Once you're registered, you can log in using your library card and PIN.

Wifi printing

add

You can use our free wifi to send documents to be printed.

You just need to be registered for our digital offer to use wifi printing.

Once you're registered, you can print documents including Microsoft Word files, PDF files, emails, webpages, and photos.

Wifi printing works with most Android and Apple phones and tablets, Windows laptops, MacBooks, and Chromebooks. If your device is not compatible with wifi printing, you can use one of our computers to print your documents instead.

Printing costs 15p per page for black and white A4, and 35p per page for colour A4.

Our friendly staff can help if you're struggling with the wifi or printing. They will also take your payment once your documents have been printed.

Please note, wifi printing is not available at Neptune and Rainbow libraries.

Hublets

add

Hublets are easy-to-use tablets which you can use to get online, read eBooks, and more. They're a good alternative to using a computer, and are easy to use even for people who are not confident using technology.

You just need to be registered for our digital offer to use a Hublet.

Once you're registered, you can use a Hublet to:

  • go online
  • access your email
  • use wifi printing
  • access Borrowbox (our digital library, where you can download digital books, audiobooks, and magazines)
  • use the range of apps installed, including social media, email, job searching apps, office apps (like Word, Excel, Google Docs, Google Sheets), and cloud storage (like Dropbox and Google Drive)

Hublets are available at:

  • Acklam Community Hub and Library
  • Central Library
  • Hemlington Community Hub and Library
