Coronavirus (COVID-19) - wedding and civil partnership ceremonies
Ceremonies update - 29 March 2021 (step 1 of restrictions easing)
Marriages and civil partnership ceremonies will start again from 29 March 2021, with a maximum of 4 guests. All other coronavirus restrictions (for example, face coverings and social distancing) are still in place.
Step 2 - no earlier than 12 April 2021
There will be a legal limit of 15 attendees at ceremonies.
Because of social distancing, the capacity of the Erimus room is 15 attendees. This includes the couple, witnesses, and guests, but does not include those working at the ceremony, like registration officials and venue managers.
Step 3 - no earlier than 17 May 2021
There will be a legal limit of 30 attendees at ceremonies.
Because of social distancing, the capacity of the Erimus room is 17 attendees. This includes the couple, witnesses, and guests, but does not include those working at the ceremony, like registration officials and venue managers.
Step 4 - no earlier than 21 June 2021
There will be no legal limit on attendees at ceremonies.
Our phone lines are currently extremely busy. If you want to cancel or reschedule your booking, please email us at email@example.com, with the date of your ceremony in the email subject line.
We're monitoring the situation on a daily basis and would like to thank you for your patience and understanding.
Permanent changes to guest numbers in our ceremony rooms
We've reviewed and risk-assessed the number of guests our ceremony rooms can hold, and we're making some changes. For the safety and comfort of our guests and staff, we're reducing the number of people we can fit in our rooms. These changes are permanent, and will apply even when there is no longer a legal limit on attendees at ceremonies.
The Erimus ceremony room is now limited to the bride and groom and 40 guests, which includes your 2 witnesses to sign the register.
The Victoria ceremony room is now limited to the bride and groom and 10 guests, which includes your 2 witnesses to sign the register.
The statutory ceremony room is limited to the bride and groom, and 2 witnesses, only.
Please contact the Register Office as soon as possible on 01642 729004 to arrange an appointment to register your child's birth. If your baby was born in 2020, please treat this as urgent.
We advise making a payment of £11 per certificate before the appointment so the birth certificate can be issued at the appointment.
Registering a death
If you need to register a death, please call 01642 729004 to make an appointment. All death registrations will be made by telephone appointment only. We'll explain this in more detail when you speak to us.
Other changes to services
