Middlesbrough Register Office can only supply certificates for births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships that took place in Middlesbrough registration district and the old Central Cleveland district.

There are several ways you can apply for a certificate from Middlesbrough Register Office:

Please check whether Middlesbrough Register Office holds your birth / death / marriage entry on Tees Valley Indexes - Register of Births, Deaths and Marriages. If you find the entry you're looking for on this website, please make a note of the reference number and quote it when ordering your certificate. Please note the Tees Valley Indexes website also holds records for Redcar & Cleveland and Hartlepool districts, for which Middlesbrough Register Office cannot issue certificates.

The information we need is:

  • Person's full name at birth
  • Date of birth
  • Place of birth
  • Parents full names including mother's maiden name

Alternatively, you can complete the birth certificate application form.

Records of adoptions are not held at Middlesbrough Register Office. You should apply to the Adopted Children's Register at the General Register Office for an adoption certificate.

 

The information we need is:

  • Bride's full names
  • Groom's full names
  • Date of marriage
  • Place of marriage

Alternatively, you can complete the marriage certificate application form.

We hold all the registers for marriages that took place at Middlesbrough Register Office or in approved premises within Middlesbrough.

We can only supply certificates for marriages that took place in a religious building in Middlesbrough if the register has been deposited with us. Registers are held at the church or place of worship until full. They are then deposited at the Register Office, but this can be several years after the marriage. To find out if we hold the relevant register please contact us via email to register@middlesbrough.gov.uk or call 01642 729004.

  • Full address for both civil partners
  • Place of civil partnership registration
  • Date of civil partnership registration

The information we need is:

  • Deceased person's full name
  • Date of death
  • Place of death
  • Age or date of birth
  • Occupation

Alternatively, you can complete the death certificate application form.
