Business rates holiday for retail, hospitality and leisure
Our retail, hospitality and leisure businesses are vitally important to Middlesbrough and the UK economy. The government has announced these businesses will be supported with a 100% retail rates relief discount for the next 12 months.
If the scheme applies to you, you should get a letter from us. You will also get a revised bill. This means that your business will not need to make any business rates payments during the financial year 2020/2021. Please do not pay anything in the meantime.
Other help and support
Any new government announcements will be updated here as we get them.
All businesses, self-employed, and sole traders who need support with any UK tax payments and customs should call HMRC’s dedicated helpline on 0800 0159 559.
Planning rules will be relaxed so pubs and restaurants can operate as hot food takeaways during the pandemic. These measures will be introduced as soon as possible. When these powers come into force, there is no requirement to apply for change of use.
We will continue to urgently look at ways in which we can continue to support businesses and residents. If you need any further information on wider business support and guidance available, please check our business support page.
