Holiday activities and food (HAF) programme

The holiday activities and food (HAF) programme runs during the school holidays to offer free, fun activities and food to children and young people aged 5 to 16 years. We understand that the school holidays can be a challenging time for parents, and the HAF can support this. All children who are eligible for benefit-related free school meals can take part.

Organisations can sign up as ‘providers’ to offer activities for children. These activities might include:

  • sport or physical activity, for example football, swimming, or table tennis
  • creative activities, for example music workshops or putting on a play
  • experiences, for example a nature walk or visiting a museum

The HAF programme runs during the three main school holidays – Christmas, Easter, and summer.

Providers

Applications are now open for HAF Christmas 2022. It doesn’t matter if you’ve taken part in the HAF programme before or not – we welcome applications from everyone.

Every provider has to offer activities for at least the minimum amount of time - for HAF Christmas 2022, this is at least one day over the holidays, for a minimum of 2 hours per day. Ideally, you will offer activities for 4 hours per day, over 4 days.

To apply, fill in the application form and send it to holidayfoodandactivities@middlesbrough.gov.uk. Please read the guidance before you apply.

The closing date for applications is 9am on Wednesday 19 October 2022.

If you have any questions, please email holidayfoodandactivities@middlesbrough.gov.uk. You can also find out more about the HAF programme on GOV.UK.

Parents

Once the activities for HAF Christmas 2022 are confirmed, you’ll find a link here to sign up. Please check back closer to the time.
