Animal licensing

England is now in lockdown again. A number of businesses must close and there are more restrictions on meeting people. Find out what this means for you.

The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018 replaced a number of pieces of legislation including animal boarding, dog breeding, pet shops, and day care. There is now a single licence for a number of animal licensing activities:

  • selling animals as pets
  • boarding of cats or dogs
  • hiring of horses
  • breeding dogs
  • keeping or training animals for exhibition

There is a fee to pay for each licence, and additional veterinary charges may apply.

Please contact the Public Protection Service by calling 01642 728272 or email EHTS@middlesbrough.gov.uk for more information on the licensing requirements or to request a license application pack.
