Middlesbrough's green strategy

Restrictions are starting to ease, but you must still remember: Hands. Face. Space. Fresh air. Check the current rules.

Middlesbrough is about to start its journey to becoming a more environmentally-friendly town. We're currently developing a green strategy which will provide a sustainable blueprint for Middlesbrough, and set out our carbon reduction programme to meet the challenge of climate change.

Our green strategy will include measures like biodiversity, energy reduction, increasing recycling rates, addressing health inequalities, green transport options, and food security. It's based on the ten One Planet Living principles.

At the moment, the strategy is still in draft form. Read our draft green strategy (PDF).

We ran a consultation between November 2020 and January 2021 to see what residents, groups, and organisations thought of our plans, and now we're looking at the results of that consultation. Thank you to everyone who took part.

Once we've looked at the consultation feedback and made any changes to our draft strategy, we'll be looking to get approval from the Executive. We hope to publish our final green strategy soon, so keep an eye on this page, and look out for our new green strategy pages coming soon too.
