Labour candidate secures by-election victory in Hemlington ward

Labour councillor Tom Mohan

The result of the Hemlington ward by-election held on Thursday, October 24 has been announced.

Labour candidate Tom Mohan was elected to Middlesbrough Council with 422 votes, securing more than 53% of the vote.

The election was held after the death of Cllr Jeanette Walker.

The full results were:

  • Mehmoona Mirsab Ameen (Workers Party of Britain) – 47
  • Barrie Cooper (Independent) – 55
  • Christopher John Henderson (Lib Dem) – 20
  • Lewis James Melvin (Conservative) – 251
  • Thomas Peter Mohan (Labour) - 422

Three ballot papers were rejected. The 798 votes cast represented a 18.91% turnout from an electorate of 4,220.
