A member of Middlesbrough Council's Executive is stepping down to devote more time to issues in his ward.
Councillor Barrie Cooper was appointed to the Council's cabinet following Mayor Andy Preston's election last May.
Cllr Cooper this week announced that he intended to step down from the Education & Skills portfolio to enable him to spend more time on work in his Newport ward.
The vacant role will be covered in the short term by Cllr Mieka Smiles, alongside her Culture & Communities portfolio.
Mayor Preston said: "Barrie's been a great Exec member and I'm really grateful for all his hard work, challenging questions and positive attitude.
"It would be great to see him back in the Exec before too long."
