National recognition for council's cleaning team

A Middlesbrough Council cleaning team have won national recognition for their ‘impeccable’ work.

The hard-working trio from the Levick Court residential care home on Middlesbrough’s Cambridge Road were highly commended in the Cleaning Team of the Year category at the industry’s Oscars.

Rita Pacitto, Robert Dunn and Christine Reidy picked up their award at the Association of Building Cleaning Direct Service Providers (ABCD) event at the national cleaning exhibition in Manchester.

Commenting on the Middlesbrough entry, the judges said: “The small team at Levick Court clean a residential home with residents that can be demanding and difficult.

“The facility is impeccably clean, and the team have amazing rapport with the residents, often seeming to be in the role of carer as well as cleaning.

“This team go way beyond what would normally be expected.”

Dennis Rawlings Managing Director and awards judge James White visited the team at Levick House as part of the assessment in March.

He said: “As always this has been a humbling experience, I am always amazed by the people I meet and the stories they have to tell.

“All those recognised here are examples of the level of dedication and professionalism of ABCD members across the country.”

Middlesbrough Council is an ABCD member and the Levick Court team was entered in this year’s awards by their manager Glen Pinnegar.

Glen said: “Rita, Christine and Robert’s passion for the work they do every day clearly impressed the judges, and is reflected in this prestigious national award.

“As a team they are truly focused on the things that really matter, and their tireless efforts really do help to create a family home feel at Levick Court.”

Councillor Denise Rooney, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive Member for Environment and Commercial Services, said: “Cleaners are all too often the unsung heroes of organisations large and small, but the work they do makes a huge difference.

“That’s certainly the case at Levick Court where their efforts have a hugely beneficial impact on residents, staff and visitors.

“This award is richly deserved recognition of their hard work and dedication, and I congratulate Rita, Christine and Robert on behalf of the whole Council.”
