Plans have been put forward for a high quality development on the site of the former Tollesby shops, which have now been demolished and the site cleared.
New designs released by Middlesbrough Development Company show an exciting new scheme incorporating 24 one- and two-bedroom apartments, shops and a children's nursery.
The apartments will meet nationally recognised space standards and be available for rent once the project has been completed. This is expected in late 2021.
Late last year the Company, which is wholly owned by Middlesbrough Council, reached an agreement to acquire the Rievaulx Drive site from the property developer Jomast.
Residents had been calling for some time for action to regenerate the Tollesby shops complex which has become a magnet for crime, vandalism and anti-social behaviour.
Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston said: "After years of suffering a derelict eyesore, the residents of Tollesby are getting the best!
"Our plans for affordable apartments, a high quality convenience store and nursery are gathering pace."
Consultation on the plans is under way with plans being released via the Company's website.
