Recycling and refuse collections over the festive period

Your normal refuse collection day is unaffected by Christmas and New Year this year. If you are unsure of your collection day you can download your recycling and refuse calendar here or order a replacement calendar by calling 01642 726001.

Please note that many wrapping papers and Christmas cards will not be able to be recycled with your normal paper recycling as they may contain materials such as metal foil, glitter and Sellotape that will contaminate your recycling. Please dispose of wrapping paper and cards in your refuse bin unless you are sure they can be recycled. Any extra recycling after Christmas can be put out for collection, next to your blue lid recycling bin, on your normal recycling collection day, loose, in clear (see-through) plastic sacks.

Using the recycling bring sites
Over the festive period residents can use the recycling bring site located at Tesco Car Park, Parkway Centre, Coulby Newham, view what can be recycled there. This facility is provided for residents in addition to the kerbside recycling collections and not intended to replace them. Continue to use your kerbside recycling collection service over the festive period and only use the bring sites to recycle any extra recycling in the correct container provided. Any recycling not placed in the correct container will contaminate loads, and any material left on the floor beside or in front of containers is classed as fly-tipped waste and those caught fly-tipping will be prosecuted. Dumping waste on the floor stops others using the containers to recycle, creates a hazard, and stops the containers from being emptied promptly. We urge residents to use this facility responsibly. If the recycling containers are full please return when the containers have been emptied, or take items to the Household Waste Recycling Centre at Haverton Hill. These containers are emptied regularly, and your cooperation helps keep these facilities running smoothly and prevents them becoming an eyesore or a hazard.

Real Christmas tree collections
Real Christmas trees should be put out next to your wheeled bin for collection on your next refuse collection day, week commencing January 9 2017. Residents should refer to their refuse and recycling calendars for their specific collection date.

Household Waste Recycling Centre
Please note the Household Waste Recycling Centre will close earlier on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, opening hours for these two days are 8am to 4pm. It will be closed on the normal festive public holidays of Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, and open all other days at the normal winter opening times of 8am to 6pm.
