Virtual Local History Month underway

A virtual Local History Month has now been launched with a full programme of online activities to enjoy during lockdown.

This month was due to herald the annual Middlesbrough Local History Month as well as the first ever instalment for Stockton.

However due to the Coronavirus outbreak the month-long programme events had to be cancelled - but with a little ingenuity the show will go on!

At incredibly short notice organisers have managed to pull a full programme of events together as one joint Middlesbrough-Stockton Local History Month to take place online.

Among the events to look forward to are virtual tours of places such as the William Lane Foundry - the oldest in Middlesbrough - virtual talks on the history of the railways and the area's contribution to the Spanish Civil War.

Other items will include published blogs on the history of Middlesbrough's art collection, St Hilda's and the Battle of Boldon as well as performances, live Q&As and shared historical photos.

There will be regular updates from Tees Archives during the month and many more surprises with everything published on the Discover Middlesbrough and Stockton Libraries Facebook pages.
