Warning sounded over dangers of unsafe toy dolls

Middlesbrough Council's Public Protection Service is advising consumers to beware of unsafe dolls that have been found on sale in Middlesbrough.

The dolls, which have the name ‘Sweet Fashion' and ‘Girl Beautiful' were found to be unsafe due to an excess level of phthalates, which is a chemical that can harm the health of children, including causing possible damage to their reproductive system.

A Middlesbrough Council spokesman said: "The dolls were subject to a safety recall by the importer East Midlands Food Ltd but investigations by our Trading Standards Officers found that some of the dolls had remained on sale in the town.

"When officers visited and notified local retailers all remaining stocks of the dolls were promptly taken off sale.

"Anyone who has bought any of these dolls is advised to return them to the shop where they were bought where a full refund should be given."

Anyone with information on the sale of the dolls or who would like advice is asked to contact the Public Protection Service on 01642 728272 or email EHTS@middlesbrough.gov.uk
