Ayresome Gardens

Ayresome Gardens is a small urban park and playground situated on the site the former Ayresome cemetery. The park features a basketball court, children's play area and fitness equipment.

At the entrance is the Millennium Arch, originally located in Victoria Park (now Centre Square).

Ayresome Cemetery was one of the town's biggest graveyards before it was decommissioned in 1962. Among those buried there are Sir Hugh Gilzean-Reid, founder of the Evening Gazette, and the children of Middlesbrough's founding fathers Henry Bolckow and John Vaughan. At the edge of the grass by Linthorpe Road, look down and see cast iron sculptures of 'World Fruit' by local artist Andrew McKeown.
