Domestic abuse

Domestic abuse is not acceptable. It affects the health and wellbeing of victims and is closely associated with child abuse and neglect, as well as issues including homelessness, substance misuse and mental health issues.

If you're in immediate danger, call 999.

Middlesbrough Council is committed to the long term prevention and reduction of domestic abuse. We believe that every individual and family in the town should feel safe and secure, and be free from experiencing violence or abuse.

Middlesbrough White Ribbon Town Award

Thousands of people around the world are making a commitment to play their part in standing up to condemn violence against women by supporting the White Ribbon Campaign. Key to this is men being at the forefront, speaking out about male violence towards women, and challenging the negative gender stereotypes which underpin abuse.

Middlesbrough is urging local men sign up and pledge: 'I promise never to commit, condone or remain silent about violence towards women'.

To show your support visit the White Ribbon website.

Middlesbrough Council is committed to ending violence against women and girls. In partnership with statutory and voluntary agencies, sports associations, local business, and educational establishments, we are proud to have secured the Middlesbrough White Ribbon Town Award by:

  • Organising prevention activities and community initiatives
  • Increasing awareness and providing services that reduce incidence of domestic abuse
  • Changing values and attitudes that lead to violence against women
