Mandale Interchange partial signalisation

Work to improve the safety of crossing the Mandale Road/A19 Interchange began on 4 January 2021, with funding from Tees Valley Combined Authority's Local Growth Fund.

The works will result in the partial signalisation of the Mandale Interchange to create improved walking/cycling access over the A19.

Update - February 2022

Upcoming works at the A19/A1130 Mandale Interchange to install a heightened parapet will begin on Sunday 6 February. This is the final phase of the cycleway scheme which began early in 2021. The scheme was split into two phases as it took longer than expected to get approval from National Highways.

Construction works are due to start on Sunday 6 February and end by Saturday 26 February. All works will be carried out overnight (between 8pm and 6am) to ensure as little disruption to the travelling public as possible.

Full access to and from the roundabout will be maintained at all times. Overnight closures of the section of the A19 beneath the roundabout will be needed at the start and end of the works for safety reasons. Traffic will be diverted 'up and over' via the exit and entry slip roads.

In the event of an emergency, the contractors (Cleveland Land Services) can be contacted on 01642 488328.

Further details about the improvements are also available:

The scheme has been fully funded by Tees Valley Combined Authority's Local Growth Fund programme, which is focussed on making improvements for sustainable transport. The scheme will bring connectivity between Acklam and Thornaby, and connect with the cycleway improvements on the Stockton side of the interchange, which will allow longer distance journeys between the two boroughs over the A19.

Highways England have approved the scheme (which is on their network), and works are scheduled to last until Spring 2022.
