Middlesbrough Development Corporation

On Thursday 1 June 2023, Middlesbrough Development Corporation (MDC) became the local planning authority for an area of the town centre and Middlehaven.

The MDC area

The MDC area covers the town centre, Historic Quarter, and Middlehaven. It includes the Boho zone, Riverside Stadium, train station, Centre Square, and the Union Village development at Gresham.

MDC functions

The MDC holds powers over planning matters including:

  • planning applications
  • development orders
  • Tree Preservation Orders
  • advertisement consent
  • listed building consent
  • conservation area consent
  • planning enforcement

Full details of the powers given to the MDC have been set down by parliament and can be found in The Middlesbrough Development Corporation (Functions) Order 2023.

Planning matters in the MDC area

The Middlesbrough Development Corporation deals with all planning applications and planning enquiries for the MDC area, including pre-application discussions.

To submit a planning application, you'll need to call 01325 792600 or email MDCplanning@teesvalley-ca.gov.uk to ask for a paper form.
