Bowel screening

There are two screening tests that you will be invited to which looks for changes to your body before they can develop into bowel cancer:

At 55 you will receive an invitation for bowel scope

  • This is a relatively new test to help prevent bowel cancer
  • It is done using a thin, flexible tube with a tiny camera on the end to look at the large bowel. It can find and remove small growths called polyps from the bowel. Polyps don't usually cause symptoms, but some might turn into cancer if they're not removed.
  • Invited at 55 for one off screening
  • If you decide not to have the test at 55, but change your mind before 60 you can call and ask for the test on 0800 707 60 60.

The second invitation that you will receive is to take part in Bowel Cancer Screening which is a regular screening programme
