How to pay adult social care charges

Adult social care charges are for residential care (care home or nursing home) or non-residential care (care in your own home).

We'll send you an invoice when you need to pay.

Before you pay, you'll need the following information:

  • the invoice number
  • your postcode
  • your debit or credit card details
  • the amount you want to pay

Ways to pay

Direct Debit

The easiest way to pay is to set up a Direct Debit.

You can call us on 01642 726777 to set up a Direct Debit. Our phone lines are open 9am to 4:30pm Monday to Thursday, and 9am to 4pm on Friday.

Online payment

You can make a payment online 24 hours a day. Pay your adult social care charges now.

Payment by phone

You can pay by phone by calling 01642 726726 then choosing option 3. This is an automatic system which is available 24 hours a day.

If you'd rather speak to someone, you can call 01642 726525. Our phone lines are open 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Post Office or PayPoint

You can pay anywhere that the Post Office or PayPoint logo is displayed.

Payment in person

You can pay in person by visiting the Customer Centre at Middlesbrough House.

You'll need to take your invoice or letter (showing your invoice number) with you.

Address: Customer Centre, Middlesbrough House, 50 Corporation Road, Middlesbrough, TS1 2RH.

Opening hours: Tuesday and Friday, 9am to 3pm.

Pay by bank credit transfer or BACS

Your BACS transfer reference must begin with MD, followed by the invoice number. For example, MD0000000.

You'll need to send a copy of your remittance to remittances@middlesbrough.gov.uk.

If you're getting residential care (care home or nursing home), you can email us at ascfinancerescare@middlesbrough.gov.uk.

If you're getting non-residential care (care in your own home), you can email us at ascfinancehomecare@middlesbrough.gov.uk.

If you're struggling to pay

We're here to help. Please get in touch with us as soon as possible if you're struggling or unable to pay. We can set up a payment plan which is affordable.

You can call us on 01642 726777 and choose option 2, or email ascdebtrecovery@middlesbrough.gov.uk.

If you're struggling to make payments, make sure you're claiming all the help you're entitled to. This includes support payments, Council Tax Reduction and Housing Benefit, and government benefits. You can also visit the help with your money page to find out where to get debt advice and help with your bills. 

If you fail to pay

If you cannot pay and do not contact us to let us know, we'll send you a reminder letter. We'll do this 35 days after we send your invoice, if it has not been paid.

If you still do not pay and do not contact us, we'll send you a final notice. We'll do this 42 days after sending the reminder letter.

If you still do not pay and do not contact us, we'll look at ways to recover the money from you.
