Citizenship ceremonies

On behalf of the Home Office, the Middlesbrough Register Office provides an official citizenship ceremony to celebrate the attainment of British nationality. This is the final stage in the process of becoming a British citizen.

Before becoming a British citizen

For your initial enquiry about applying to become a British citizen please contact the Home Office by calling 0845 010 5200.

Citizenship ceremony

When the Home Office grants citizenship, they'll send us your paperwork. We'll contact you directly (by email or post) to let you know that we've received your details.

Once the date has been set for the next available group ceremony, we'll send you a follow-up email or letter containing your invitation.

If the group ceremony is not suitable, you can book a private ceremony for a fee of £162.80. To find out more, call us on 01642 729004.

Group ceremonies take place in the grand setting of the Town Hall's Erimus marriage ceremony room. You're welcome to bring one guest with you (maximum). There are lots of opportunities to take photographs.

At the end of the ceremony, you'll get your Home Office welcome pack, containing your certificate of naturalisation, electoral registration form, and a souvenir of the occasion.

Middlesbrough Register Office is very pleased and proud to be part of your ceremony, which welcomes all new citizens on behalf of HM King Charles the Third and Middlesbrough Council.
