Middlesbrough Register Office can only supply certificates for births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships that took place in Middlesbrough registration district, and the old Central Cleveland district.
If you need to apply to a different register office, you can use the General Register Office website to find contact details for that register office.
Before you apply
You can use the Tees Valley Indexes website to check whether Middlesbrough Register Office holds the record you're looking for. If you find the record you need, make a note of the reference number and quote it when you're ordering your certificate.
Please note, the Tees Valley Indexes website also holds records for Redcar and Cleveland district. If the record you need is held by Redcar and Cleveland, you'll need to order a copy of the certificate from the register office for Redcar and Cleveland.
Getting your certificate
You can apply for historical birth, death, marriage, and civil partnership certificates online.
You can decide how you get your certificate.

If you'd prefer to collect your certificate, orders placed and paid for before 2pm will be ready for collection after 10am the next working day. Orders received after 2pm will be ready for collection after 10am in 2 working days.
