Request a birth, marriage, civil partnership, or death certificate

You can now apply for historical birth, death, marriage and civil partnership certificates online. Applications will only be taken between the hours of 9am to 2pm.

This is a postal service only. We offer both a priority and standard service, and you can find out more about the different services when you apply for your certificate.

Middlesbrough Register Office can only supply certificates for births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships that took place in Middlesbrough registration district and the old Central Cleveland district.

If you need to locate another district visit the General Register Office website.

Before you apply

Please check whether Middlesbrough Register Office holds your birth / death / marriage entry on Tees Valley Indexes - Register of Births, Deaths and Marriages. If you find the entry you're looking for on this website, please make a note of the reference number and quote it when ordering your certificate. Please note the Tees Valley Indexes website also holds records for Redcar & Cleveland and Hartlepool districts, for which Middlesbrough Register Office cannot issue certificates.

Please note, the Register Office can accept no responsibility for lost certificates once they've been posted.
