HSHAZ property grants

The HSHAZ property grant scheme encourages eligible building owners or leaseholders to invest in the repair and restoration of empty or under-utilised buildings in the HSHAZ area.

Improvements can include, but are not limited to, repairs, reinstating lost features, and making buildings suitable for new use.

Please note, all HSHAZ property improvement grants have been fully allocated. We are no longer accepting applications for grants.

Property grants update

With the support of a HSHAZ grant, work is underway to repair and bring the following properties back into full use:

  • 2-3 Exchange Place (former Kalinka Bar)
  • 1 Albert Road (Bloom)
  • 2-6 Albert Road (Chequers nightclub and bar)

Work will begin on 9 Zetland Road (Zetland Hotel) in summer 2023.

These building improvement works will help to preserve our town's heritage for years to come, and bring new uses to the Historic Quarter.

For more information, visit the Historic Quarter website or email HAZ@middlesbrough.gov.uk.
