Northstar Housing tenants (Middlesbrough area only)
Tenants will not be charged for the treatment of rats, mice, fleas, cockroaches, and bedbugs (covered by a contract arrangement between Middlesbrough Council and Northstar Housing Group). Treatment of wasps is not free and the tenant will be charged.
Statutory Nuisance from insects
The Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 added to the descriptions of Statutory Nuisance listed in section 79(1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to include: 'Section 79 (1)(fa) any insects emanating from relevant industrial, trade or business premises and being prejudicial to health or a nuisance'.
Please note, this doesn't apply to insects from domestic premises which can be dealt with under existing nuisance law. Examples of likely sources of insect nuisance complaints will include sewage treatment works, manure/silage storage areas, stagnant ditches and drains, landfill sites, refuse tips, and waste transfer premises.
