The charity partner for Middlesbrough’s new Half Marathon has been unveiled ahead of next month’s inaugural event.

Leading running events company RunThrough has named The Teesside Foundation as its Charity of the Year for the race on Sunday, March 3.

The Foundation strives to enhance the quality of life for individuals in need, addressing challenges related to age, disability, ill health and financial hardship.

The charity organises numerous fund-raising events throughout the year, providing valuable support through initiatives like short breaks for those in need.

The new partnership aligns with RunThrough’s commitment to not only create exceptional running experiences but also to make a positive and lasting impact on communities.

RunThrough Co-Founder Matt Wood said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with The Teesside Foundation for the Middlesbrough Half Marathon.

"Their dedication to improving the lives of individuals in the Teesside community resonates with our mission to inspire an active nation through running.

"Together, we aim to not only deliver a fantastic running event but also contribute to the greater good of the local community.”

Tony Wedlake, Founder and Trustee of The Teesside Foundation, said: “The Teesside Family Foundation are very proud and honoured to be the charity partner of our hometown Middlesbrough's first Half Marathon.

“We are so excited to be part of this awesome event, it's going to be a special day on March 3 starting outside the historic Town hall.”

Middlesbrough Mayor Chris Cooke said: “There are as many reasons for doing a Half Marathon as there are runners at the start line, but for a great many good causes are an important factor.

“Events like this raise much-needed funds for countless charities, and I’m sure many of those taking part next month will help the Teesside Foundation carry on the fantastic work it does.

“Good luck to all those in training for this special event – it will make a real difference in so many ways.”

Anyone wishing to participate and raise money for The Teesside Foundation has the option to secure a place via the charity directly and anyone who has already secured their place in the event can create a Go Fund Me page to raise money for The Teesside Foundation.

RunThrough encourages runners, spectators, and the wider community to join in supporting this worthy cause. General entry is still available through the RunThrough website.
