An operator is now being sought to run a new community facility in Middlesbrough.

A site for the proposed £1 million community centre development next to the new GP Surgery at Nunthorpe was agreed by Middlesbrough Council’s Executive last March.

The centre will create a relaxing and welcoming location for people of all ages to meet and attend community group meetings and mix with like-minded people.

Concept designs for the facility have been completed, and from Monday, potential operators are being invited to submit expressions of interest by Monday, February 26.

The full business case process will run until Friday, March 15, with a further report to the Council’s Executive outlining proposed next steps as the project moves to the delivery stage.

This will pave the way for a formal planning application, the appointment of an operator, tenders for construction works and the final build phase.

Councillor Theo Furness, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive member for Regeneration, said: “This fantastic development will benefit Nunthorpe for years to come, so it’s brilliant to see the project gaining momentum.

“Nunthorpe is a growing community, and it will be great to have a dedicated facility for the whole community to use.

“This key phase is to seek expressions of interest from organisations with the potential and experience to run the community centre, with no cost to the Council.”
