Animal licensing

You'll need a licence from the council if you want to:

  • sell animals as pets
  • provide boarding for cats or dogs (including day care)
  • breed dogs
  • hire out horses
  • keep or train animals for exhibiting

How to apply for a licence

  1. Read the guidance notes for your chosen licence. You'll find them in the licences section below.
  2. Call 01642 726001 to pay for your licence. You'll need to quote the reference on the application form. Once the payment has gone through, you'll be given a payment reference number.
  3. Fill in your application. Make sure you include your payment reference number so we know you've paid.
  4. Send your application by email or post. We'll contact you to let you know what happens next.

Dog boarding establishment
