Best Value Notice

On 24 January 2023, the government issued a Best Value Notice to Middlesbrough Council.

A Best Value Notice explains the concerns the government has about a council, and what action needs to be taken to improve the situation.

On 30 January 2024, the government issued a revised Best Value Notice.

On 9 September 2024, the government confirmed that the Best Value Notice would be removed.

This recognises "the significant progress made by the council, such as making positive changes to personnel in key leadership positions and delivering the improvement plan, as well as developing strategies and establishing the infrastructure for ongoing improvement in culture, governance and financial sustainability."
